OUR FIREFIGHTERS
Keeping Safer Those Who Keep Us Safe
Our community depends heavily on the Fire Department of Roatan, affectionately known by most as the bomberos. They are not only available to put out house fires, but also are indispensable for the everyday functioning of society. Their guaranteed presence is extremely necessary to ensure safety for the community, tourist activities, and to mitigate disaster in crisis situations.

In February 2022, Friends of ROA organized the donation estimated at $25,000. The donation included an extensive list of safety gear to protect the those who keep us safe. Friends of ROA has a sustained commitment to working with Roatan's firefighters, helping to keep those safe who protect us.
BUILDINGÂ INFRASTRUCTURES FOR CLEAN RUNNING WATER
Projects to Dramatically Improve Lives
COMMUNITY AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT
Let's Get to Work!
Did you know that some communities on Roatan only have access to running water once every 15 days? Meet Don Joaquín, water administrator for Bella Vista, one of the most economically disadvantaged communities on Roatan. This particular hub of the Balfate has nearly 700 inhabitants living in 80 modest homes. Slowly the community has sponsored and dug a well; the pump is not large enough to serve the community, so the village must organize to share the water. PVC pipes run to some homes, however, many cannot afford to run the plumbing from the well to their dwelling. Every two weeks each family is allowed a day to collect water for washing clothes, dishes, and taking care of sanitary issues.

Our current project would allow for each of these eighty homes to have running water once every two days for several hours--a dramatic improvement over the current situation. The project includes purchase of PVC, a much heavier duty water pump, and the installation of pavement that will hold the infrastructure in place. Don Joaquín and his family will soon have access to running water, a luxury he's never known.

The community of Bella Vista has worked hard so far and is determined to complete the project they started. Donate today to help this continue this life-changing infrastructure project!

AT BELLA VISTA
At Friends of ROA we are excited to change lives for the better. We have been hard at work to get this particular project underway, and we are committed to continuation of the wider installation. We hope to consistently reach various villages of the Balfate community in the months and years to come. Just the thought of improving the water system enough to have running water every day for a few hours brings joy. We anticipate installation of plumbing, pumps, and pavement to happen during the months of July and August, 2022.
